Intended Use

This dataset is intended to be used for training and evaluating automatic speech recognition (ASR) models. It may also be used for applications relating to computer-aided language learning (CALL) and language or heritage revitalisation.

Metadata

eto — Eton (eto)

This datasheet is for cv-corpus-25.0-2026-03-09 of the Mozilla Common Voice Scripted Speech dataset for Eton [eto - eto]. The dataset contains 11063 clips representing 9.9 hours of recorded speech (9.45 hours validated) from 26 speakers, recorded from a text corpus of 966 sentences.

Language

Eton is classified in the Administrative Atlas of Cameroon's Languages as a dialect of Beti-Fang, along with Mengisa, Ewondo, Bulu, Ntumu and others. Ethnologue online identifies Eton as a distinct language.

Variants

The main contributor to this dataset identified two varieties of Eton, which he named Eton a Nke and Eton a Kwe. He declared that the collection of sentences used for read speech in this dataset represent the Eton a Nke variety. Other Eton speakers and language experts have argued that Eton is relatively homogeneous and native to nearly all indigenous populations in the Lekie Division of the Centre Region of Cameroon.

The dataset includes the following self-declared age and gender distributions. A coverage summary is shown below each table.
